Leeds Christmas

It's great to be in Leeds at Christmas. There are so many great things to do. Christmas shopping is always fun and the festive excitement of Christmas parties and events never wears off.

Of course you can also enjoy the tranquility of Christmas Day and Boxing Day when you can walk (and drive) around without drowning in shoppers. But that soon ends when the New Year sales all start!! This site covers all the best things to do during your Leeds Christmas.

Christmas in Leeds is a magical time and made more so by the great Christmas lights. The annual lighting ceremony in November attracts more than 20,000 people to Victoria Gardens in Leeds city centre and is generally held in the first or second week of November.

Leeds Christmas Markets 2016

hotel at christmas The biggest christmas market is the Christkindelmarkt, also known as the German Christmas Market, and takes place in Millennium Square off Calverley Street.

The market runs every year from early November right through to mid December, and is open every day including Sundays. Organised by Leeds City Council, traders sell christmas-themed wares (from jewellery to food) from more than 40 traditional wooden chalet stalls and alpine log cabins.

Kids always love the bratwurst, gingerbread and the carousel, and mums and dads seem to enjoy the Gluwhein. Funny that.

Just down the road, the Skipton Yuletide Festival and Christmas Market is held on the first two sundays of December. Open from 10am to 4pm, the Skipton Medieval Christmas Market includes festive stalls, Christmas entertainment and a candlelit procession leading to the Holy Trinity Church.

We highly recommend the annual Grassington Victorian Christmas which is held on the first 3 Saturdays of Septmber where the town of Grassington is transported back to the time of Charles Dickens. You can enjoy the Christmas lights, the village square and the streets transformed into a traditional market with shopkeepers, villagers and visitors dressed in Victorian costume.

Christmas Fun For Kids

Leeds santa clausWe love the Christmas Adventure at Stockeld Park which runs from the end of October right into January.

The Park transforms into a magical wonderland with ice skating, christmas lights, Santa's grotto and lots of delicious treats to eat.

And if you want to meet Santa (or Father Christmas) in the centre of Leeds then head to one of the major department stores, you can often see him walking around and getting inspiration for present ideas!
